Eid al-Fitr 2027: Date and 69 Countries’ Days Off

In short: Eid al-Fitr 2027 is expected on Tuesday 9 March, the morning after Ramadan 1448 ends. Our 2027 data lists it as a public holiday in 69 of 192 countries. Twenty-one of those get three or more consecutive days off, and Saudi Arabia gets six. The date remains conditional on the crescent moon.

23 October 2026 โ€” This page answers two questions about Eid al-Fitr 2027: which date each country will observe, and how many days off that date produces. Both answers come from the 2027 tables behind our full 2027 holiday calendar. Every row there is typed National, Substitute or Bank, and we exclude Observance, Religious and Regional entries. A country counts in this article only when the day is a statutory day off at national level, so the numbers here are narrower than a list of countries where the festival is marked.

When is Eid al-Fitr in 2027?

Eid al-Fitr 2027 is expected on Tuesday 9 March, the first day of Shawwal 1448. Ramadan 1448 is estimated to begin on 8 February 2027, so Ramadan 2027 ends on the evening of 8 March and the festival follows the next morning. Fifty-nine of the 69 countries in our data start their break on that Tuesday.

Only four of the 69 carry a firm date rather than an estimate: Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Singapore and Sri Lanka. The other 65 are tagged estimated, because a printed calendar can project the moon but cannot confirm it. The tag is a statement about certainty, not about the holiday’s legal status.

The shift from the previous year is large. Eid al-Fitr 2026 fell on 20 March, and Saudi Arabia’s break ran from 19 to 24 March. Eleven days earlier in 2027 is normal arithmetic: the lunar year is roughly 11 days shorter than the Gregorian one, so Islamic dates move back every solar year until they wrap around the calendar. The Saudi sequence for 2027 is set out on the Saudi Arabia 2027 public holidays page.

Why the Eid 2027 date depends on moon sighting

Most countries start Eid al-Fitr 2027 on 9 March, but not all. Eight begin on 10 March and two, Oman and Yemen, begin on 8 March. That is a three-day spread for one religious event, and it is not a data error.

Islamic months begin with the sighting of the new crescent, so 1 Shawwal starts when the moon is seen locally, not when a table says it should. Saudi Arabia and most Gulf states follow the Umm al-Qura calculated calendar, which can be projected years ahead. Countries that rely on local sighting confirm only a day or two in advance, and a cloudy horizon can push the start by a day.

The practical effect is that the same festival lands on different weekdays next door. Oman and Yemen take Monday to Thursday. Bangladesh, India, Singapore and five other countries take Wednesday to Friday. Anyone booking flights or scheduling a launch across the region should check the national gazette rather than a regional average, because a one-day difference can wipe out the only working day in the week.

Eid al-Fitr holidays by country in 2027

Sixty-nine of the 192 countries in our 2027 calendar list the festival as a public holiday, or 36% of the total. The spread is narrow: 59 countries begin on 9 March, 8 begin on 10 March and 2 begin on 8 March. No country begins later than 10 March, although some extend the break into the following week.

The table below breaks Eid al-Fitr 2027 down by each country’s first day. It counts each country once, on its first Eid entry. Countries with a multi-day break appear only on their starting date, which is why the three rows add up to 69 rather than to the 128 individual dates recorded.

First day of Eid Weekday Countries Examples
8 March 2027 Monday 2 Oman, Yemen
9 March 2027 Tuesday 59 Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Indonesia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan
10 March 2027 Wednesday 8 India, Singapore, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nigeria

The map is heavily weighted to Africa, the Middle East and South and Southeast Asia. Europe contributes three countries in our data: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Turkey, which spans both continents. The Americas contribute two, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. The full country-by-country split is on the public holidays by country index.

The longest Eid breaks of 2027

Saudi Arabia has the longest Eid al-Fitr 2027 break in the dataset. Four holidays are listed from 9 to 12 March, plus an observed day on Sunday 14 March, which bridges the weekend and produces six consecutive days off. That is the single largest block of non-working days tied to the festival anywhere in 2027.

Three countries reach four days. Oman and Yemen start a day early on 8 March and run to Thursday 11 March, while Sudan runs 9 to 12 March. Seventeen countries settle at three days, and Bangladesh is the outlier in that group because its three days are Wednesday to Friday rather than Tuesday to Thursday.

Country Days listed Holiday + Sat/Sun run Dates
Saudi Arabia 5 6 days 9โ€“14 March
Oman 4 4 days 8โ€“11 March
Yemen 4 4 days 8โ€“11 March
Sudan 4 4 days 9โ€“12 March
United Arab Emirates 3 3 days 9โ€“11 March
Turkey 3 3 days 9โ€“11 March
Bangladesh 3 3 days 10โ€“12 March

Two caveats sit behind those figures. A run of days counts only where a holiday touches a weekend or another holiday, so a Tuesday holiday followed by a working Wednesday is not a long weekend even when the country calls it a three-day festival. And the Saudi observed day is a substitution, so the legal holiday count stays at four even though the time off lasts six days. The five-day total includes that Sunday. Runs here count Saturday and Sunday as the weekend, so countries whose weekend is Friday and Saturday look shorter than they are in practice; that affects Oman, Saudi Arabia and most of North Africa.

Eid al-Fitr 2027 in the Gulf

The Gulf is where Eid al-Fitr 2027 produces the most uniform block of time off. The United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain all list 9, 10 and 11 March, three consecutive statutory days from Tuesday to Thursday. Friday 12 March is a working day in the UAE, so the statutory block does not merge with the weekend, and the run stops at three days.

Saudi Arabia adds Friday 12 March to that core, and then a Sunday observed day, which is where the six-day run comes from. The UAE dates are listed on the UAE 2027 holiday dates page, and the background to each entry sits in the Saudi Arabia holiday guide.

Oman is the exception in both timing and length. It starts on Monday 8 March, a full day ahead of its neighbours, and finishes on Thursday, so the region’s four-day breaks do not line up with the three-day ones. For logistics and shipping schedules crossing the peninsula, that one-day offset is the detail that matters, not the total count.

Eid al-Fitr 2027 across Asia

For Eid al-Fitr 2027, Asia splits three ways. Indonesia and Malaysia, the two largest Muslim populations in the region, each list two days: 9 and 10 March. Brunei, the Maldives and Pakistan list three. Bangladesh lists three as well but starts on 10 March, the day after most of the region.

The two-day pattern is unusual for countries with such large Muslim populations, and it reflects the structure of their holiday laws rather than the scale of the festival. Both countries treat the first two days of Shawwal as the statutory minimum and leave any further leave to employers. Indonesia’s full 2027 list is on the Indonesia 2027 public holidays page.

Pakistan runs 9 to 11 March and is one of the few countries outside the Gulf with a full three-day statutory break. Its neighbour India takes a single day on 10 March, and Sri Lanka does the same under the name Id-Ul-Fitre. The Pakistan 2027 public holidays page lists the dates alongside the rest of the year.

Countries that take only one day

For Eid al-Fitr 2027, thirty-six of the 69 countries give exactly one day off, the single largest group in the dataset. It includes India, Singapore, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Kenya, Ghana, Mauritius and most of West and Central Africa. For these countries the festival is a national holiday but not a holiday period.

A single Wednesday in the middle of the week produces no long weekend, so the practical effect is close to a normal week with one closure in it. Banks, government offices and many schools shut for the day and reopen the next morning. In India, where the date falls on 10 March, the local picture is further complicated because states publish their own lists on top of the national one.

That is worth knowing before planning anything around the date. In a one-day country, the festival affects a single working day; in a three-day country it removes most of a week. The India 2027 public holidays page shows how the national entries sit against the rest of the year.

Where Eid al-Fitr is not a public holiday in 2027

Eid al-Fitr 2027 is not a national public holiday in several countries with large Muslim communities. The United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand and South Africa all have no National, Substitute or Bank entry for 9 or 10 March.

That is a statement about statutory time off, not about observance. Mosques in those countries hold Eid prayers, schools may allow absence, and some employers offer a flexible day. But no national holiday is created, so the date does not appear in the official calendar and does not shift any public services.

The distinction matters for anyone searching from a country where the day is not official. If your country is not on the list of 69, the festival will not close offices, and the practical question becomes whether your employer offers leave rather than whether the state does. Regional groupings of what is and is not official are listed under public holidays across Asia.

Planning around 9 March 2027

Ramadan 1448 runs from an estimated 8 February to 8 March, so the festival closes a month of fasting rather than opening a season. For business planning, that means the reduced-hours period is the five weeks before the holiday, not the holiday itself. Deadlines set for early March in Muslim-majority markets should assume slower turnaround throughout February.

In the 59 countries starting on 9 March, the working week effectively ends on Monday 8 March. Government offices, banks and many private firms in the Gulf and North Africa close from Tuesday, and in the four-day countries they do not reopen until the following Sunday or Monday. Anything requiring a signature, a payment or a customs release should clear before Friday 5 March.

The overlap with other events is worth checking. International Women’s Day falls on Monday 8 March 2027, the day before the festival, and Indian festival dates cluster in the same window, as the Indian festival dates 2027 list shows. Where those dates sit next to Eid, the working days available in early March shrink faster than the holiday count alone suggests.

About Public Holiday Calendar

Public Holiday Calendar publishes public holiday dates for 192 countries. Each country and year has its own page, and every entry is typed National, Substitute, Bank, Observance, Religious or Regional so the counting rule stays visible. Dates come from national gazettes, government announcements and official calendar sources. Where a date depends on a religious observation, such as the sighting of the crescent moon, the entry is marked estimated until an official announcement confirms it.

Corrections are welcome and usually the fastest way to improve a page. If a national announcement confirms or moves a 2027 Eid date, or your country’s entry looks wrong, write to privacy@publicholidaycalendar.com. Include the country, the date and a link to the official source. We update the country page and the year page together, and the estimated tag is removed once a gazette confirms the date.

Holiday observance can vary by region and employer. Confirm critical dates with the relevant authority.
