About Public Holiday Calendar

Public Holiday Calendar is a free, independent reference that lists the public, bank and substitute holidays of 192 countries - mapped to the day of the week, grouped into long weekends, and tied back to the official source behind each date.

Dates first. Context where it matters. Our publishing workflow prioritises clear country and year labels, visible observance context and source review for important planning decisions.

What this site covers

Every country gets one calendar per year, plus a country page explaining how public holidays work locally.

  • 192 countries - a public holiday calendar for every country we cover, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.
  • 2025, 2026 and 2027 - the current and upcoming years, so you can plan holidays, travel and payroll in advance.
  • Public, bank and substitute holidays - labelled and counted separately from observances and awareness days.
  • Long weekends - the year's dates mapped so you can see which holidays fall next to a weekend.
  • School holidays - term breaks for a growing set of countries.

How our calendars are built

Each calendar starts from the country's primary official source - a government gazette, a labour ministry notice or a published holiday list - and is cross-checked before it goes live. The same rules are then applied to every country:

  • The country and year are stated in every calendar title.
  • The observed date is shown separately from the holiday name.
  • National, substitute and bank holidays are labelled separately from observances.
  • Regional and employer variation is called out where it matters.
  • Where an official source has not been confirmed, we say so instead of guessing.

Accuracy and updates

Calendars are reviewed ahead of each new year, and country calendars show the date they were last checked. Holidays do move: governments add bridge days, shift a holiday by a day or announce a substitute date at short notice. If a date looks wrong, tell us and we will re-check it against the official source.

Who writes this

Every calendar and guide on Public Holiday Calendar is produced by our editorial team. We keep the focus on dates and sources rather than on bylines, so reference pages are published under the team rather than an individual name, and nothing here is copied from third-party calendar aggregators.
